Divus is a duo from Rome, comprised of electronic musician Luciano Lamanna and saxophone player Luca T. Mai.
Lamanna has a 20-year long career as a DJ, electronic musician and event organizer in the electronic and techno scene. He’s part of LSWHR collective in Rome and has many musical projects that go under his name or with other collaborators, like Lunard Lodge who also made a split album with Mai Mai Mai. Most recently he focused his work on the duo with Davide Ricci called Balance, devoted to improvisations on modular synthesisers.
Luca T. Mai is the man who blows the infernal saxophone with Zu, one the most powerful band on the planet which toured extensively in the last 15 years bringing their surgical heaviness everywhere. He also plays with the duo Mombu, inspired by African music transformed in a monstrous afro/grind.
The encounter of Lamanna and Mai is surprisingly far from their usual sound. Their influences coming from techno and jazzcore/metal are both left aside here, in favour of a more nocturnal and atmospheric sound.
The use of synthesisers is sober and it’s accompanied by long sustained notes from the saxophone. The music is so smokey and dark, It could suit perfectly a b/w crime movie shot in one metropolitan suburb.
